Church of the Divine Savior Beating heart of Plaza del Salvador

The Church of the Divine Savior (Iglesia Colegial del Divino Salvador) in Seville is a remarkable church, known as one of the most important religious monuments in the city after the cathedral. Its architectural history is particularly rich, as it was built on the site of an ancient mosque, one of the largest in Seville, which itself occupied the site of a Roman temple.

The current building, as we know it, is a masterpiece of the Sevillian Baroque style. Construction began in 1674, led by the architects Leonardo de Figueroa and his son. The imposing façade, the sumptuously decorated interior, the gilded altars and the massive altarpieces are a testament to the richness and opulence of Andalusian Baroque art.
