About

  • English
    • Located in Santiponce , just a few kilometers from Seville and in the immediate vicinity of the ruins of Italica, the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo is a historical monument of great singularity.

Founded in 1301 by Guzmán el Bueno on a site traditionally associated with Saint Isidore of Seville, this former Cistercian monastery is an exceptional testament to the evolution of architecture in Andalusia. It is distinguished by the harmonious and complex union of styles: the building presents the remarkable juxtaposition of two churches, one Gothic and the other Mudéjar , imbued with Almohad influence. This stylistic richness extends to its cloisters and interiors, which were later enriched with Baroque elements , notably magnificent altarpieces by Martínez Montañés.
