Seville is a beautiful city and, generally speaking, very safe for tourists. The Sevillians are welcoming and warm. However, as in any major tourist city, it is important to remain vigilant and take some precautions to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Beware of pickpockets

The main safety problem for tourists in Seville is not violence, but pickpocketing. Pickpockets operate mainly in crowded areas.

Be especially vigilant in crowded areas such as public transport (buses, metro), markets (such as the Triana market), emblematic monuments (Cathedral, Alcázar, Plaza de España) and during major events (Holy Week, Feria).

Practical advice:

• Keep your bag closed and in front of you.
• Do not put anything important (phone, wallet) in the back pockets of your pants.
• Avoid leaving your phone or wallet on the table in a cafe or restaurant.
• If you are carrying shopping bags or backpacks, hold them firmly, especially in crowds.
• It is advisable to only take the cash you need for the day and leave the rest and your papers in the safe at your hotel/accommodation.

Avoid risky situations

• It is not recommended to venture out alone at night in isolated streets, especially on the outskirts of Seville. Less central working-class and residential areas may be less well-lit and less frequented by tourists.
• As in other cities, there may be people who solicit you for money. Be polite but firm by politely refusing.
• It's rare, but sometimes people try to charge you for unsolicited services in bars and restaurants, such as flowers or bracelets. The best thing to do is to politely and firmly refuse.

By following these few common-sense tips, you can enjoy all the riches of Seville with complete peace of mind. Caution is advised, but it should in no way spoil your enjoyment of discovering this enchanting city.
