Directions Alcázar of Seville - A thousand years of architecture in Andalusia

About

  • English
    • The Real Alcázar of Seville is an architectural masterpiece and one of the oldest royal palaces in Europe still in use. Its history dates back to the 10th century, when the original fortress was built by the Umayyad Caliphate. The palace was then continually embellished and enlarged by successive rulers, both Muslim and Christian. This overlapping of eras is reflected in its unique architecture, which harmoniously blends Islamic, Mudejar, Gothic, and Renaissance styles.

The building is a veritable labyrinth of magnificent courtyards, richly decorated halls and vast, lush gardens. Among the palace's jewels are the Patio de las Doncellas, with its reflecting pools, and the Salón de los Embajadores, famous for its spectacular dome. The gardens, meanwhile, offer a haven of peace and coolness, with their fountains, fruit trees and exotic vegetation, creating a striking contrast with the grandeur of the buildings.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Real Alcázar is a living testimony to the cultural and historical richness of Andalusia.
