Giralda The legacy of three cultures in Seville

The Giralda of Seville is the famous bell tower of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the See of Seville. It was originally built as the minaret of the Great Mosque of Seville during the Almohad period, between 1184 and 1198. Its lower part, in the Almohad style, is distinguished by its elegant brickwork and polylobed arches.

After the Christian Reconquest, the building was converted into the bell tower of the new cathedral. In the 16th century, a Renaissance-style upper section was added to house the bells. At the top of the tower stands a bronze statue of Faith, known as the " Giraldillo," which gave its name to the entire monument.

A symbol of the city, La Giralda is a perfect example of the architectural fusion between Islamic and Christian styles and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
