Iglesia de San Lorenzo, Sevilla Treasure of the San Lorenzo neighborhood

The Church of Saint Lawrence of Seville (Iglesia de San Lorenzo), located in the eponymous square, is one of the oldest parish churches in the city.

Founded in the 13th century after the Christian reconquest, it is mainly Gothic-Mudejar in style, although it underwent significant restructuring in the 18th and 19th centuries that profoundly altered its initial appearance. The main body of its tower-facade, rectangular in shape, retains the Mudejar aesthetic of the first period, contrasting with the Baroque bell tower added later. The side entrances are also Baroque in style.

Inside, the church has an irregular plan with five naves and houses a remarkable artistic heritage, including its High Altarpiece, initiated by the renowned sculptor Martínez Montañés in 1632 and completed by the Rivas brothers. In addition, it contains works of great value such as the sculpture of the Virgin of Rocamador, an ancient 14th-century alabaster image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and murals by Baroque artists. It has been of paramount importance in local fervor, notably as it once hosted the venerable brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder, now housed in its own adjacent basilica.
