Directions San Telmo Palace - The Baroque setting in the heart of Seville

About

  • English
    • The Palace of San Telmo is an emblematic building in Seville, considered one of the finest examples of Sevillian Baroque.

Originally built as a college-seminary for sailors' orphans, in homage to Saint Elmo, patron saint of sailors, it has had several functions throughout its history. In the 19th century, it was notably the luxurious residence of the Dukes of Montpensier, Antoine d'Orléans and his wife Marie-Louise-Fernande de Bourbon, who contributed to its embellishment.

Today, after extensive restoration, it is the seat of the Presidency of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía). Its spectacular façade, especially its Churrigueresque-style main portal, as well as the statues of illustrious Sevillians that adorn it, are testament to its architectural richness.
