Directions Maritime Museum of the Tower of Gold - The nautical memory of Andalusia

About

  • English
    • The Maritime Museum of Seville is housed in the famous Torre del Oro, a dodecagonal military watchtower that allowed the monitoring of river access via the Guadalquivir.

Before hosting the Maritime Museum, inaugurated in 1944 and managed by the Spanish Armada, the tower, a historical and artistic monument, served as a prison, a chapel, and a secure warehouse for precious metals arriving from the New World. The museum presents on its two floors the maritime history of the city and Spain, through collections including ship models, historical nautical charts, navigational instruments, and documents retracing expeditions such as those of Magellan and Elcano. The visit ends with the panoramic terrace and its breathtaking view of the river and the city.
