About

  • English
    • The Museo del Castillo de San Jorge (Saint George's Castle Museum) is the interpretation center built on the ruins of the castle, under the current Mercado de Triana in Seville.

This is not a castle on the surface, but a museum space that allows visitors to descend and explore the archaeological remains of the ancient fortress. The visit focuses mainly on the site's darkest period: its role as the seat and prison of the Spanish Inquisition Tribunal between the 15th and 18th centuries.

The museum uses educational panels, videos and reconstructions to illustrate the history of religious repression and the methods of the Inquisition. It also shows the remains of the walls, moats and dungeons of the old prison.

Admission is generally free, providing an accessible opportunity to explore this often overlooked chapter of Sevillian history.
