Directions Saint Anne Church - First Christian church in Seville

About

  • English
    • The Church of Santa Ana, located in the Triana district of Seville, is a notable Gothic-Mudejar church, considered the first parish church built after the city's reconquest in 1248. Its construction was ordered by King Alfonso X the Wise to commemorate his recovery from an eye disease.

Its current structure is the result of numerous modifications over the centuries, mixing Gothic style with Mudejar influences, particularly in its portals and bell tower. It houses a collection of important works of art, such as the main altarpiece, sculpted by the artist Nufro Ortega and painted by Pedro de Campaña in the 16th century. The building has withstood the ravages of history and natural disasters, including the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, and remains a place of worship and a major historical monument in Seville.
