About

  • English
    • The Church of Santa María Magdalena in Seville is a religious building of great historical and artistic importance.

Originally built in the 13th century, it has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. The church is a remarkable example of the Sevillian Baroque style, with an imposing and richly decorated façade. It houses exceptional works of art, including several sculpted altarpieces, frescoes and paintings by masters such as Zurbarán.

Located in the El Arenal district, it was built on the site of an old mosque and rebuilt after a fire. Its architectural plan, in the shape of a Latin cross, is characteristic of churches of this period in Andalusia. The central dome, in the late Baroque style, is one of its most remarkable elements. It is also known for housing the tombs of several important figures from Seville. The Church of Santa María Magdalena is a living testimony to the evolution of art and religious architecture in Spain.
