About

  • English
    • The Church of San Julián in Seville is a religious building of great historical and artistic value, often unknown to the general public. It is located in the Macarena neighborhood and is a fine example of medieval religious architecture.

Built in the 13th century, shortly after the reconquest of Seville by King Ferdinand III of Castile, it was erected on the site of an old mosque, like many other churches in the city. Its architectural style, Mudejar, is a unique fusion of Christian art and Islamic influences, manifested in the use of brick and geometric motifs. The church has a single nave and a polygonal chevet. One of its most notable features is its bell tower, also in the Mudejar style. Although it has undergone several restorations over the centuries, particularly after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, the church retains most of its original character.
