About

  • English
    • The Church of San Marcos (Saint Mark) is one of the most significant examples of the Gothic-Mudejar style that flourished in Seville after the Reconquest.

Built on the site of a former mosque, it stands proudly on San Luis Street, a major historical axis. Its architecture harmoniously blends Christian (Gothic) and Islamic (Mudejar) traditions, using primarily brick.

The most striking feature on the exterior is undoubtedly its slender square tower, a remnant of the old minaret of the primitive mosque. This tower, decorated with sebka motifs ( diamond-shaped networks similar to those of the Giralda), was restored in 1916 by the Sevillian architect Aníbal González. The main façade, in late 15th-century Gothic style, features a stone doorway with ornate archivolts.
