Directions Church of Santa Catalina - The legacy of the mosque

About

  • English
    • The Church of Santa Catalina, in Seville, is a religious building of great historical and architectural value. Its history dates back to medieval times, and it is particularly known for its fusion of architectural styles.

Originally, a mosque stood on the site, of which the minaret converted into a bell tower remains. Construction of the current church began in the 14th century in a Mudejar style , a unique blend of Christian and Islamic architectural influences. Over the centuries, other styles were added, such as Baroque, particularly visible in the altarpieces and interior decoration. The church has recently been restored to reveal its original splendor and rich heritage.
