Directions Metropol Parasol - The largest wooden structure in the world

About

  • English
    • The Metropol Parasol, also nicknamed "Las Setas" (The Mushrooms) by the Sevillians because of its organic shape, is a masterpiece of modern architecture designed by the German Jürgen Mayer H. and inaugurated in 2011. Located in the Plaza de la Encarnación, this imposing structure is considered the largest wooden construction in the world. It offers a giant canopy 150 meters long and culminating at 28.5 meters in height.

Far beyond its initial function of providing shade for the square, the site houses several levels.

      • In the basement is the Antiquarium, an archaeological museum displaying important Roman remains discovered during construction.
      • At street level there is a market and a square for events.
      • Finally, the main attraction is the panoramic walkway that winds across the roof of the "mushrooms," with spectacular 360-degree views of Seville. It is particularly magical at sunset or during the nighttime light shows.
