Directions Monumento a Clara Campoamor - Spanish women's right to vote

About

  • English
    • The Monumento a Clara Campoamor in Seville is a bronze statue located in the Plaza de la Pescadería. Inaugurated in 2007, it was created by the artist Anna Jonsson to pay tribute to Clara Campoamor, a Spanish lawyer and politician who played a key role in the fight for women's suffrage in Spain.

The sculpture is not a realistic representation of the adult Clara Campoamor, but rather a young girl sitting on a metal cube reading a large book. Around her are books and toys, symbolizing childhood, knowledge, and hope. This work serves to perpetuate the memory of Clara Campoamor's life and fight for equal rights for women. She is a symbol of freedom and access to education, and a permanent reminder of the advances made in women's rights.
