Directions Church of Saint Nicholas of Bari - The soul of the Candelaria neighborhood

About

  • English
    • The Church of San Nicolás de Bari is a parish church located in the historic center of Seville. Although its origins date back to the 13th century, its construction as we know it took place in the 18th century, giving it a pronounced Baroque style. It is best known for its spectacular main altarpiece, an 18th-century work by the sculptor Agustín Perea. The altarpiece depicts scenes from the life of Saint Nicholas of Bari. In addition, the Chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary (Capilla de la Virgen del Rosario) is particularly noteworthy for its decorative richness.

The church, although less well known than other Sevillian monuments, is an important example of late Sevillian Baroque and continues to play an active role in the religious life of the city.
