About

  • English
    • The Church of Santa María la Blanca is one of the most unique monuments in Seville, encapsulating the religious history and cultural mix of the city, located in the heart of the old Judería (Jewish Quarter). The building is famous for being the only temple in Seville that preserves vestiges of the three great monotheistic religions : Muslim, Jewish and Christian.

Originally built in the 10th century, it was a mosque, before being converted into a synagogue in the 13th century under Alfonso X the Wise. After the anti-Semitic revolts of 1391, it was converted into a Christian temple in the Mudejar style. However, its current appearance is the result of a radical transformation in the 17th century, when the interior was completely redone in the Sevillian Baroque style under the leadership of Justino de Neve.
