  • English
    • The Basilica of Santa Maria de la Esperanza Macarena is an emblematic neo-Baroque place of worship in Seville, inaugurated in 1949 and located in the popular neighborhood of the same name, near the old wall.

It is world-famous for housing the statue of the Virgin of Hope Macarena, a central figure in Seville's Holy Week. This statue, famous for its expression of pain and its diamond tears, is carried in procession during the "Madrugá" (the night of Good Thursday to Good Friday), attracting immense popular fervor. The richly decorated interior of the basilica also includes a museum displaying the treasure of the Brotherhood of the Macarena.
