Directions La Sphère Bioclimatique - The icon of the Universal Exhibition

About

  • English
    • The Bioclimatic Sphere (Esfera Bioclimática) is an emblematic monument of the Universal Exposition of Seville (Expo '92), located on the Cartuja Island.

Designed by architects Luis Vilches and Francisco Reina, this immense hollow metal sphere was not a pavilion in itself, but a key element of the Expo's bioclimatic program. Its main function was to serve as a giant mist maker to cool the ambient air and create a shaded area in Seville's hot climate. Although it is no longer in use today, it has remained a powerful symbol of the Exposition, embodying the themes of innovation, technology, and sustainability. It remains one of the most recognizable structures on the former Expo site.
