The Monastery of La Cartuja, founded at the end of the 15th century and whose construction continued until the 18th, is a symbolic monument of the island of La Cartuja.
Its architecture blends several styles, including Gothic, Mudejar, and Spanish Baroque, with distinctive features such as its cone-shaped chimneys inherited from its conversion into a pottery and porcelain factory (Pickman) in the 19th century. It is also famous for having hosted Christopher Columbus before his second voyage and for temporarily housing his remains. Today, after extensive restoration for Expo '92, it houses the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art (CAAC).
