The Alamillo Bridge is an iconic cable-stayed bridge in Seville that spans the Guadalquivir River.
Designed by the architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava, it was completed in 1992 for the Universal Exposition (Expo 92) to provide access to the island of La Cartuja. Its remarkable design makes it a self-supporting bridge, with only a single inclined pylon 142 meters high, from which the cables that support the deck depart, without the need for retaining cables on the opposite side. The structure has become an architectural icon of the city.
